Did you know that the Niagara peninsula represents the largest planted area of vineyards in all of Canada? The area boasts a whopping 46 grape varieties over 13,000 acres of gorgeous vineyard. Our climate and soil produce fantastic wines, with the most common varieties being Chardonnay, Merlot, Riesling, Cabernet Franc, and Sauvignon Blanc.
Vintage Hotels is pleased to work with some of the best wineries in the area, all producing premium wine that we’re proud to serve at our hotels, restaurants, and catered events. You can visit several of them on our exclusive Wine Trolley Signature Tour!
Why is the Niagara Region Ideal for Winemaking?
The region’s success in winemaking can be attributed to two key features: its consistent cool climate and its rich, fertile soil.
The constant circulation of breezes between Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment helps moderate extreme hot and cold temperatures, allowing for vines to flourish.
The soil of the Niagara region is varied in composition, consisting of clays, sedimentary rock, and silts and sands. This promotes biodiversity, allowing many different grape varietals to thrive.
