Why is the Niagara Region Ideal for Winemaking?
The region’s success in winemaking can be attributed to two key features: its consistent cool climate and its rich, fertile soil.
The constant circulation of breezes between Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment helps moderate extreme hot and cold temperatures, allowing for vines to flourish.
The soil of the Niagara region is varied in composition, consisting of clays, sedimentary rock, and silts and sands. This promotes biodiversity, allowing many different grape varietals to thrive.
